Emil Richards, a well-known percussionist here in L. That was my first set of drums. My whole school was really a big booster for Jeff;we were all proud of him.
Emil and I are trying to make it happen, and jfef it does, it will be one of the best schools anywhere. Lenny started playing a conga pattern.

We looked at each other and just started playing the basic groove Then I added some stuff to it. Speaking of Tommy Dorsey, I see your name here on his album cover. His third borrowed idea was the Purdie shuffle, which has ghost notes in the gaps of the hi-hat pattern.
People porcado look at me and say, “You’ve got good technique,” and yeah, okay, if you get to play ten hours a day, six days a week, for the past 20 years like I have then, yeah, you develop some sort of technique. We have an educational project that might be happening here in correlation with the Guitar Institute of Technology run by Howard Roberts and Pat Hicks. I’ve heard it now for too many years where people will say, “Yeah that ‘Rosanna’ groove, that’s the Jeff Porcaro feel. It was almost cut from the Toto IV vrooves prior to its release.
He was funny, down to earth, and very likable. Jeff jefg studying drums with his father at age seven, along with his two brothers. Finally, we got the band started and one of the priests played piano.
Jeff knew how to make an entrance. The next day is, if anything, more intense. Which record are you talking about?
You ggrooves the matched grip? Porcaro had strong chops, but he hated to play solos, because he felt drums were there to lay down the groove. I mean, I never even made it through that first Buddy Rich jefff book, or whatever. But there was a catch — he had to leave high school before graduating. The Dorsey band was the very first band I went on the road with. In Donald Fagen called Jeff to do some of the drumming on his solo debut, The Nightfly, on which Jeff plays yet another shuffle variation on “Ruby Baby”.
Coated Remo Ambassadors are installed on the top sides of the snare and toms while a Remo PowerStroke 3 is the choice for the bass drum. On “Jumpstreet” Jeff splits the difference, placing the beat absolutely dead center. The latter, highly recommended, is a record-long showcase of quintessential Porcaro: And so, Porcark find it frustrating because people say, “Yeah man, your time is good. Manipulating the Time Feel: But “Rosanna” is just one of many notable grooves you’ve played. He muffled his drums as little as possible since he wanted a big, resonant sound.
The title track is made especially unusual by the second-line idea at the end of the song. It took him a couple years to develop his sliding bass drum technique. You walk in one day, see a chart, play the tune, and then split. Jeff let songs and grooves evolve, knowing that a groove doesn’t just happen; porcark is created through repetition and sincerity.
Regardless, jegf was a master of using ghost notes to deepen his grooves. We picked out the best two bars that we thought were grooving, oprcaro we marked those two bars on tape.
Artists would reschedule sessions to fit jef schedule, rather than call someone else. I’m very happy with the work in the studios out here.
The thing that blew my mind was everybody was playing one part. So that was in my head when I was working on “Mushanga. This is one of your finest! Our church was next to the State Theatre in Hartford where all the bands came through. I mean, I wasn’t listening to music for the party of it, but for the groove. With no outboard effects other than a bit of compression grooves and there he quickly achieves a very lively and very powerful drum sound.
