Algorithms of the Intelligent Web, Second Edition teaches the most important approaches to algorithmic web data analysis, enabling you to create your own machine learning applications that crunch, munge, and wrangle data collected from users, web applications, sensors and website thhe. Valuable insights are buried in the tracks web users leave as they navigate pages and applications.

You can uncover them by using intelligent algorithms like the ones that have earned Facebook, Google, and Twitter a place among the giants of web data pattern extraction. Algorithms of the Intelligent Web, Second Edition teaches you how to create machine learning applications that wrb and wrangle data collected from users, web applications, and website logs. In this totally revised edition, you’ll look at intelligent algorithms that extract real value from data.

Key machine learning concepts are explained with code examples in Python’s scikit-learn. This book guides you th algorithms to capture, store, and structure data streams coming from the web. You’ll explore recommendation engines and algorighms into classification via statistical algorithms, neural networks, and deep learning.

Please try again later. I was disappointed with this book and unfortunately cannot recommend it to other readers. From my perspective there are a number of key flaws. The first is that the explanations are fairly short and also rely on the reader having a certain amount of prerequisite knowledge. I’m already somewhat familiar with machine learning, so I understood the topics however I think people who are new to the field and don’t have some background in mathematics and statistics will struggle.

The second problem with the book is that each topic is only covered very briefly and in not much depth, so even if you understand their discussion perfectly you are only going to be left with a basic introduction. I was hoping to use this book to get some additional insights into various machine learning topics and familiarize myself with python tools for machine learning. Although this book does include python code and what I saw wasn’t bad, it isn’t a very detailed or comprehensive look at the use of python in machine learning.

I’ve looked at a few python machine learning books and they all seem to be just not very good. In summary while I wouldn’t say this book is bad, it simply lacks the kind of detailed explanations a beginner would need and lacks the depth that would appeal to more advanced learners. The thing to realize is that vast majority of these topics are not new and have been around for decades.

For those looking for an explanation of the theory it is well covered in existing textbooks in statistics and data mining. For those looking at how to use python for machine learning, you would be better off reading an introduction to python textbook and then doing some online tutorials on tools such as matplotlib, sklearn etc.

Another alternative would be to consider learning R as well, there are quite a few decent textbooks that use R, and then later transition to python. Some useful books are James, Witten et al.

Practical machine learning Tools and Techniques another good introduction that uses their own Java tools Kuhn. Applied Predictive Modeling a good intermediate text that uses R.

Read after the James, Witten et al. Machine Learning a decent introduction to theory, again not very mathematical.

Doesn’t use any particular tool Pang-Ning Tan. Introduction to Data Mining decent introduction to the theory of data mining if you want more depth or another perspective.

Again this is more theory it doesn’t use any particular tool I didn’t mention them here, but there are a great many decent statistics textbooks on topics such as multivariate analysis, regression modeling, algorithns analysis etc that contain valuable material also. In addition there are good online introductory courses such as that by Andrew Ng. My review is simple. Either you keep learning, or you become extinct in the software industry. This one is today’s next step.

More of an overview. This is definitely an overview from very high level for someone who is already fairly familiar with the subject If you are fairly familiar with the subject and want a set of examples or have it organized in your head, then def this book would provide you with a nice flow.

This lightning deal caught my eye. It made a great gift for my intelligent granddaughter, who likes math, intends to get a graduate degree she’s in high schoolso she’ll need statistics and I thought this might be a fun way to learn some advanced math concepts.
