My reading of this book is a testimony to the importance of the independent bookseller. There is experience of its evil intent amidst the harm visited on locals who avoid the island like the plague. However, an adept, dangerous and ruthless killer has no intention of being discovered and will do anything to stop this happening.

There is the case of the tortured dove, the industrial magnate that has been burned to death and an infamous arsonist framed for the murder and the main story, which is the ghostriders of Ordebec.

Some paragraphs I didn’t understand at all and since reading comprehension is one of my strong suits, it’s probably not me. In The Ghost Riders of Ordebec they seemed incredibly obtuse.
Sure enough, the next murder occurred, and Adamsberg and his team now have their work cut out for them.
He is a humanist, who accepts everyone as they are, and knows how to take advantage even of their disadvantages, for everyone’s benefit, not just his own.
I read it in Swedish since I can’t read French. The lack of progress convinces Adamsberg to go to Iceland despite the reservations and outright hostility of most of his team, particularly Danglard. Maybe it’s because I jumped in at the 10th book in the series. The author’s imagination must have been running on overdrive in dreaming up these people.

Adamsberg is ditzy with flashes of genius, he likes taking his shoes off to walk in the grass and cares as much about finding out who tied a pigeon’s feet together as he does about solving murder. By book eight, Adamsberg will not be noting the same things about people as he did in the first.
